It’s a girl’s favorite story to tell – how her husband proposed to her.
About half a dozen guys propose to their girlfriends at Bronner’s each year. Some have shared their proposal story with us over the years through photos. We’re so glad to play a small part in their love story!
According to a survey by wedding-planning site, The Knot, women prefer a surprise proposal, even if they’ve been ring shopping with their boyfriend.
Meet John and Erika, who became engaged at Bronner’s in 2010. John sure got the surprise element right!
It started with an ornament … and ended with a ring!

He also aced another element important to women surveyed: He said the wonderful words, “Will you marry me?” Actually, he contacted our customer service team and placed an order for a big, beautiful shiny silver ornament personalized with the words. (I’m sure he said the words, too!) His parents picked the ornament up at the customer service counter and had it ready for John in the nearby, romantically lit tree area. And John took it from there!

Proposing without a ring was the number one faux pas ladies said a guy could make when proposing to his girlfriend. John was well prepared with a lovely diamond!
The first diamond engagement ring on record dates back to 1477. Archduke Maximilian of Austria presented his fiance, Mary of Burgundy, with a diamond ring. This triggered a new popular practice among European nobility and aristocracy.
Congratulations, John and Erika!

And our congratulations to the ladies, past and present, who celebrated their engagement with an ornament from Bronner’s! Thank you for sharing your memorable moments with us! (@BronnersChristmas on Facebook and Instagram, or @BronnersXmas on Twitter)
