Your kids will love crafting this creepy crawly creature in celebration of Halloween!
For each spider, you will need …
- 3-inch Foam ball
- (2) 1-inch Foam balls
- (8) Black pipe cleaners
- Aileene’s® Original Tacky Glue
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Permanent black marker
- Acrylic paints in florescent orange, florescent yellow and black
- Craft knife (adult supervision recommended)
- Paintbrush, cup of water and newspaper
What to do …
Step 1: When using paints, it’s always a good idea to prepare and protect your work area by covering it with a sheet of newspaper. You may also want to wear old clothes or a painting apron to prevent damaging good clothes.
Step 2: Paint 3-inch foam ball orange. Let dry.
Step 3: Let an adult helper cut a little bit off the bottom of each 1-inch foam ball so that there is a flat surface on one side. Paint each ball yellow. Let dry.
Step 4: Use the pencil to draw an arrow on top of the orange ball (see photo above). Paint it black. Let it dry.
Step 5: Glue yellow foam balls onto the orange ball to create eyes. Paint black eyeballs on each eye. Let dry.
Step 6: Use black marker to draw a big smile on the spider.
Step 7: Trim each pipe cleaner to about 5 1/2 inches in length. Use the pencil to carefully poke 8 holes, about 1/2 inches apart and 1/2 inches deep, into the orange ball. This is where the legs will go.
Step 8: Glue a pipe cleaner into each hole. Let dry completely. Bend the middle of each pipe cleaner down to create a knee. Crook the half-inch tip of each pipe cleaner up to create a foot.
