Silent Night Paper Feather

Supplies:

  • three sheets, double-sided sheets of music
  • feather pattern – draw your own or use our template
  • glue
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • wire 37 cm in length
  • gold (or your color choice) ink pad

Steps:

  1. Draw your own feather pattern or use our template and cut out the feather. Set aside.
  2. Fold the wire in half, leaving one end 3 cm longer than the other.
  3. Draw a line of glue down the middle of one page of sheet music, making it 1 cm shorter than the length of the wire.
  4. Lay the folded wire on the paper along the line of glue, leaving the 3 cm of single wire sticking out at the bottom.
  5. Place the second page of sheet music on top of the first, press it firmly into the glue and wire. Let dry completely.
  6. Place your feather pattern over the center of the wire, trace around it and cut out your feather.
  7. From the paper remnant, cut a narrow (5 mm) strip of paper the length of the sheet. Dab one side of it with glue and wind it tightly around the exposed wire starting at the base of the feather. When you reach the end of the wire, snip the rest of the paper off and pinch the last wrap snugly into place. Let dry.
  8. Using a pair of sharp scissors, cut fine diagonal lines all the way around the feather.
  9. Ink the edges of the feather by holding it between your thumb and fingers at a 45-degree angle and raking the ink pad across the edges of the feather (optional). Let dry. Ruffle a little if you wish.

DIY Silent Night Music Sheet Paper Chain Garland

Supplies:

  • “Silent Night” or other sheet music – or free printed sheet music from your computer (print both sides or leave one side white – your choice)
  • scissors or paper cutter
  • stapler

Steps:

  1. Cut each page of 8 1/2-by-11-inch sheet music lengthwise into four equal strips. The number of pages you need to cut will be determined by the length of paper chain you need. This will make a wide paper chain. If you’d like a narrow chain, simply cut each page of sheet music into six to eight equal strips.
  2. Loop and staple strips to make chain.

  • ornament pattern – draw your own or use our template
  • glue gun & glue sticks

Steps:

  1. Draw your own ornament pattern or use our template. Trace and cut out 20 ornaments. (You should be able to cut three or four pages at a time.)
  2. Make two stacks of 10 ornaments and fold them in half lengthwise.
  3. Line the two stacks up spine to spine and staple them together in the center and at each end. Fan sheets.
  4. To improve the fanned appearance of the sheets, place a dot of glue next to the spine in the center of two pages and pinch it gently. Go to the next page and place dots of glue next to the spine near the top and bottom of the two pages and pinch. Repeat this process all the way around the ornament. The sheets should fan open better. (See video.)
  5. Using a needle and thread, poke a hole through at least a few pages at the top of the ornament and make a thread loop for hanging.
