Our mason jar DIYs for St. Patrick’s Day will have you dancing a jig! Add our pineapple punch, and the festive fun will be bubbling all day long.
Now the beautiful thing about about these DIYS is that there’s nothing permanent about them. You see, our lovely leprechaun gnome drinking jar can easily be taken apart. While you can tuck away the decor pieces for next year, the jar can be washed and reused a multitude of ways! Until, of course, you need it again next St. Patrick’s Day!
Leprechaun Gnomes for St. Patrick’s Day
In similar fashion in 2022, we created a DIY leprechaun sock gnome for St. Patrick’s Day. To follow up, we brought a DIY hunter sock gnome on the scene for Father’s Day.

But this year we’re really switching things up! Our mason jar, for instance, has become a leprechaun gnome drinking jar. No doubt, you’ll find it perfect for sipping a little gold at the end of the rainbow!
Leprechaun Gnome Mason Jar DIYs for St. Patrick’s Day
Supplies for a Mason Jar DIY for St. Patrick’s Day
- pint mason jar
- piece of faux fur
- 10-inch length of 1/2-inch-wide elastic (color to match beard)
- one 3/4-inch-diameter wooden bead
- sheet of green or green-patterned scrapbook paper or cardstock (Given that choice, I chose a striped, green, wavy scrapbook paper for fun.)
- piece of black scrapbook paper
- piece of glittery, gold scrapbook paper (Since I had glittery gold cardstock on hand, I used it. However, I don’t recommend it since it’s difficult to cleanly cut a tiny buckle through its thickness.)
- pencil
- ruler
- scissors
- glue gun and glue
- double-sided tape
- clear, transparent tape
- 4-inch-wide mug
- ring that screws the lid onto a pint jar
Directions for the Beard

- First, place the piece of faux fur face down.
- Then measure 5 inches across the top of the faux fur piece and mark it with a snip.
- Next, measure 4 inches down the side of the faux fur and mark it with a snip.
- Now cut a 4-inch by 5-inch piece of faux fur for the beard. Be sure, by all means, to cut fur side down, cutting the backing, not the fur. ***Please note: I like a really long, full beard on my gnome leprechaun. If you don’t, however, feel free to start with measurements 1 to 1 1/2 inches shorter for both length and width.
- Finally, fold the faux fur in half lengthwise with the fur on the inside. Cutting the backing, not the fur, cut from midway down the open side on an angle to the middle of the bottom (see photo). Now flip the folded fur and repeat on the other side.

Attaching the Beard to the Elastic
- Begin by running a line of hot glue along the inside top of the beard. Then center the piece of black elastic over the center of the line of glue. Press gently to attach.
- Now fold in one end of the elastic 3/8 of an inch and glue it to prevent fraying.
- Finally, glue the folded end to the other end of the elastic, overlapping about 1/2 inch. The beard, no doubt, should slip snugly over the mouth of the jar.
Directions for the Hat

- To keep the project simple, trace the 4-inch-diameter lip of a mug onto scrapbook paper. This forms the outer edge of the brim of the hat.
- Next, center the ring of a jar lid inside the 4-inch circle and trace the outer edge of the ring.
- Finally, cut out the circle, then the center, and your hat brim is complete.
- Now cut a 10-inch length of 3-inch wide scrapbook paper. Roll and tape it so it fits the brim of the hat.
- To assemble the hat and brim, space three pieces of tape around the wrong side of the brim. These pieces of tape should point to the center. Now center the brim, wrong side up, on top of the hat. Finally, fold the tape down onto the inside of the hat to secure the hat and brim.
- Next, trim a 10-inch length of 5/8-inch-wide black scrapbook paper for the hat band. Cut a buckle from the gold, glittery scrapbook paper. Glue the two vertical sides of the buckle to the hat band and the hat band to the hat.

Bubbling Pineapple Punch
Equipment
- 1 punch bowl, beverage dispenser or large pitcher
- 1 large spoon
- 1 ice cream scoop
Ingredients
- 46 oz. pineapple juice, chilled
- 3 c. apricot nectar chilled
- 1 qt. 7-Up. Squirt, or club soda chilled
- 1 qt. pineapple sherbet
Instructions
- Combine chilled pineapple juice and apricot nectar in a punch bowl.
- Add desired soda and sherbet just before serving. (Makes 25-30 small servings or 12-15 regular servings.)
Notes
When serving the punch in jars …
- Add the soda but not sherbet to the punch mix.
- By all means, use a large beverage dispenser or pitcher for ease in filling the jars.
- Then fill each jar two thirds full of the punch mix and top with a scoop of sherbet. Pineapple sherbet can be difficult to find. I found it at Kroger. (We receive no compensation for the mention.) Although you could certainly substitute rainbow sherbet, the pineapple sherbet is truly that pot of gold!
- Finally, slip each beard in place.
- Now top each jar with a hat, gently securing the brim to the jar with double-sided tape.
- Insert an extra-long 11- or 12-inch straw.

A Simply Green Mason Jar DIY for St. Patrick’s Day

All things considered, a few drops of food coloring in water is non-toxic to flowers and water-rooting plants like philodendrons. Given that, freely tint clear water in mason jars with a few drops of green food coloring this St. Patrick’s Day. Then tuck flowers and cuttings of your choice into the jars for a festive Irish touch.
