Great Scott! Mad scientist Halloween decor from Department 56’s Trick or Treat Lane will undoubtedly bring a little crazy to your creepy this Halloween! What’s more, our bat 16-inch LED silhouette with twinkling lights and spooky eyes LED silhouette with twinkling lights (in-store or customer service at 800.361.6736/customerservice@bronners.com) complete the look.

With this in mind, Department 56 describes its new “The Mad Scientist’s Place”: “Up the street and around the bend is the crazy chemistry teacher’s house. He’s a bit quirky any time of the year, but his students caution of how mad he becomes at Halloween. Careful as you approach, as bubbling beakers and sizzling circuits litter his yard. But there’s a delicious reward for any trick-or-treater brave enough to face the insanity up close.”
But first, how did Trick or Treat Lane get its start?

Mad Scientist Halloween Decor Makes Trick or Treat Lane in 2025
All things considered, this village piece really shows attention to detail, featuring electroluminescent lighting and strobe effects. What’s more, bright colors pop all over this piece. No doubt, it’s a springboard for a lot of Halloween fun. Let me show you …
Bubbling Jars Make for Mad Scientist Halloween Decor

- First of all, gather as many clean jars (and lids) as you want to use.
- Next, fill each jar a quarter full of water.
- Now, fill the jars most of the rest of the way with vegetable oil. (Stop about 3/4 of an inch from the top of the jar.
- Finally, add about 5 to 10 drops of food coloring of your choice. In general, the number of drops you use depends on the size of your jar.
- Just for fun, add a teaspoon or so of glitter to each jar. Also, crack one or two bracelet-size glow sticks to start them glowing and add them to each jar. You can also add light-up rings – flashing are my favorite! Just start them and drop them in each jar.
- When you’re ready to make the jars bubble, add Alka-Seltzer® tablets! (You should make sure the tablets are not near or past expiration to be assured a strong reaction.)

What’s more, if you place the lids snugly on these bubbling, mad-scientist jars and store them safely, you can use them again. And if you’re looking for a great educational moment, you can share why this works with the kids.
