New Year is a time for looking ahead while remembering the past. It’s a time for celebration filled with many traditions and special friends. Vintage photos from decades past display a vast array of funny hats donned on New Year’s Eve. We think this party hat tradition needs to make a stylish come back, so we’re saying goodbye to those plain ole’ cone hats and partying like it’s …

New Year Party Hat Tradition
Have you ever wondered where the tradition of wearing party hats on New Year’s Eve even came from? It started in Victorian England and was connected with their Christmas cracker tradition. Party-goers reinvented the noble, medieval crowns that once signified formality and status into paper crowns and other disposable party hats.
New Year’s Eve, a fun, festive break from the formality of everyday life, most certainly must have made light-hearted party guests feel like king or queen for the day while adorned in their paper crown with gaiety.
Party Hats Of Auld Lang Syne …
Without a doubt, the variety of hats to be seen in pictures of “auld lang syne” (times long past) presents an abundance of inspiration … for many more YEARS to come!
What’s more, you can recycle some of that beautiful Christmas packaging you just “hate to throw away,” to make your own party hat, by repurposing items like:
- Gift Bags
- Tissue Paper
- Bows
- Tinsel
- Wrapping Paper
It’s Party [Hat] Time
Certainly it would be fun to see the creativity in what guests come up with.
