It’s that time of year again! Summer is over and the first day of school has quickly come upon us! Did you know that September is school-picture month? What better way to show off your kids’ first day of school photos than with this fun and easy DIY apple frame. It’s also a great after-school activity to do with your kids and their friends! So, what do you say? Let’s get started!

Apple CD Photo Frame*

Our apple CD frame project, minus any worms, is fun and easy to create. Makes a picture-perfect gift for a favorite teacher or a loved one who is the “apple of your eye”!

You will need:

– recycled clear CD case

– craft foam scraps in red, brown, green, light green

– (4) green ½-inch buttons

– small sheet of white card stock

– scissors

– craft knife (adult supervision needed)

– glue

– ruler

– pencil

What to do:

Step 1: Carefully take apart the front and back of the CD case. Turn the bottom half upside down. Reassemble by snapping the two halves back together. Your CD case should not be able to close anymore, but the front side should be able to stand up. This is the side you can later slide a photo into.

Step 2: We have created an apple, leaf and stem pattern for you to use. Click here to print out. Use a pencil to trace apple pattern onto red craft foam. Use scissors to cut out. Ask an adult to help you remove the center part of the apple, using a craft knife.

Step 3: Trace leaf pattern onto green craft foam. Use scissors to cut out. Trace leaf half onto light green craft foam. Cut out using scissors. Glue leaf half onto leaf. Glue finished leaf onto front top of apple frame shape.

Step 4: Trace stem pattern onto brown craft foam. Cut out using scissors. Glue to back top of apple frame shape.

Step 5: From cardstock, cut out a rectangle measuring 4 5/8 inches wide by 4 ¾ inches tall. Center and glue a favorite photo on top of rectangle. Slide into top part of CD case.

Step 6: Now that you have assembled your apple frame, glue to front of CD case.

Step 7: Be sure to glue a green button to each of the four corners of your apple frame inset as shown.

Step 8: The only thing your new apple frame is missing … is you!
