Materials

  • Clear Ornament
  • Mod-Podge® Decoupage Medium gloss or matte finish is your choice
  • Mica Flakes
  • Art or Photos cut out
  • Scissors
  • Foam Applicator

Instructions

Preparing Mod-Podge® Decoupage Medium

  • Pour Mod-Podge® into a container with a small amount of water to create a thick, but pourable, high viscosity.
  • Stir to mix and adjust as needed.

Ornament

  • Carefully remove the ornament topper and set aside.
  • Pour in the thinned Mod-Podge® medium, then turn slowly to coat the ornament interior fully.
  • Allow the excess to drip out.
  • Next, pour in a generous amount of Mica Flakes, again, turning to coat fully. Gently tap out the excess.
  • Allow to dry completely which will be evidenced by clarity as the medium dries clear. Total dry time will depend on how thick your medium and Mica Flakes are. Also, be sure to leave the ornament's topper off during drying to avoid trapping moisture.

Time For Decoupage

  • Cut out art. (Photos, ephemeral art, etc. are great options!)
  • Roughly lay out art before applying to ornament as you'll want to work quickly once you start gluing.
  • Apply a thin coat of Mod-Podge® on the ornament. Additionally, applying a thin layer to your art backing will significantly help in application. Finally, add another coat of Mod-Podge® over top. Allow a little time for Mod-Podge® to dry as you work your way around the ornament.
  • Repeat as necessary until you achieve your desired look.

Notes

For larger art, you may wish to add small slits to help the art fold over the ornament’s curved surface.
Mod-Podge® Gloss provides a more clear and vibrant finish than the matte; though both finishes work.
Confetti makes a nice addition to be sure! (Our cherub version features gold star confetti accents for an extra divine touch.)
