How To Bring SPARK-le Back To Old, Recycled Christmas Lights:

Before you begin to make your retro tinsel wreath, you’ll want to prep your Christmas lights so they are dried and ready to go if you decide to use Glitter Bulbs.

All you need for this is Modpodge®, a foam applicator, glitter and old Christmas bulbs.

To note, we use just a thin layer of the Modpodge® in this video tutorial. You can also opt to thin the Modpodge®with a bit of water if you want to skip the foam applicator and just dunk the bulbs. But don’t be tempted to straight-up dunk the bulbs in the Modpodge® bottle.😂 We tried that for you …

First Step – Measure Up

The easiest way to begin is to measure out how many bulbs you will need. You can do this by:

  1. Mathing it out, or
  2. Marking your Styrofoam® ring.

You can see which route we took.😜

Once you know how many bulbs you need you will be ready for …

Second Step – Become The World’s Best Wrapper

Place a dab of hot glue on the Styrofoam ring® to secure one end of the tinsel garland in place. Then wrap the tinsel garland tightly around until you have the desired look. Trim any excess and glue the remaining end down to hold in place.

Third Step – All About the Accessories!

Decide how you want to place your decorations and then start gluing them on!

Lights

To attach, carefully add a generous amount of hot glue to the bulb on the outermost surface. Then, press into place on your tinsel wreath and hold a moment to ensure it stays in place.

We chose an alternating pattern of red, white and green lights. Because we used old-fashioned looking faceted LED bulbs, we used a mix of glitter bulbs and plain to showcase their beauty.

It’s important to note that if you are using a hard accent, like this Red Matte Bow Plastic Ornament (1243873), that you plan to leave enough space between your bulbs for it to lay flat against the wreath.
