Tree-mendous Statue of Liberty Headband

The Semiquincentennial Anniversary of America has been a grand theme at Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland. The celebration of 250 years of independence began with Bronner’s Annual Staff Christmas Party in January. Decorations, food and beverages were inspired by our great nation’s milestone birthday.  Amid the festivities, I found inspiration. One of the photo-op displays designed by our visual team reminded me of a popular DIY project we had done in the past.

With the use of the Christmas trees as the points of the statue of liberty’s diadem, I thought to myself “why not put a patriotic spin on our bottle brush tree headband!”

Try using our 4.5 Inch Bottle Brush Tree Set (1244230) for this project!

To begin, I spray painted the trees the iconic oxidized copper color of the Green Goddess. Then, I followed the steps listed in the bottle brush tree headband DIY. After the trees were attached to my headband, I traced the curve of the headband onto a piece of similarly colored craft foam. Next, I hot glued the foam piece in front of the trees at the base of the headband. I also hot glued the foam to the trees for extra support to prevent bowing when the headband is stretched to fit your head.

With the foam adhered to the headband, I cut my desired arch shape and drew in the windows. Finally, accessorize to your heart’s content — I added extra sun rays using tinsel accents from a floral arrangement!

There are seven rays on the crown to represent both the seven continents and the seven seas of the world. The 25 windows symbolize gemstones and heaven’s rays of light. This is best seen at night when the statue’s crown shines from within.

These Pop Rock Firecracker Cakelettes are the ultimate sweet treat for summer celebrations, barbeques, and patriotic gatherings. With their playful sparkle and firework-inspired crunch, these cakelettes are guaranteed to light up the dessert table!

Step 1: Start with a box of white cake mix. Once all ingredients are combined, separate evenly into three bread pans. Keep one pan white; add red and blue food coloring to the remaining pans. Then bake in the oven as directed on the box.

Step 2: Once the cakes are cooled, use a round cookie cutter to cut circles out of the cake sheets. (If the cake rose higher than expected, you can cut them in half to make more cakelettes.)

Step 3: Squeeze or spread a frosting circle onto the top of one cake piece, stack the next color and repeat. The frosting holds the layers together.

Step 4: Once the layers are stacked, use a straw to poke a hole into the center of the cakelette. Be sure not to go through all three layers.

Step 5: Pour the Pop Rocks into the hole you created in the center cakelette then top it off with a rope candy! (I used Jolly Rancher Rope.) Note: Do this step just before you plan to serve. The Pop Rocks will begin to crackle due to the moisture of the cake and lose its popping effect after a few hours.
